The IHT's  8th annual luxury conference hosted by fashion journalist godess Suzy Menkes opens today in Mumbai. This year's theme? Sustainable luxury. Why hadn't we thought of it?

Speakers will include Elizabeth Hurley, Indian designer Manish Arora and presidents and managing directors of luxury brands to creative directors, designers and suppliers to the industry.

"Islamism in the Shadow of al-Qaeda" a talk by Dr. Francois Burgat (Institut Francais du Proche Orient).

Rania Matar

Rania Matar's photographic work captures the everyday humanity that persists amidst catastrophic circumstances. She primarily focuses on the Middle East, especially its women and children. More recent projects examine refugee camps, the meaning of the veil and the aftermath of war.

For the ICA, Matar presents several black-and-white prints showing women and girls in states of repose, introspection, or in defiantly assertive stances, along with color work that reveals the haunting traces of domestic life found within chaos and rubble.

BENJAMIN TRIGANO GALLERY is pleased to announce the first Los Angeles exhibition of Lebanese artist LAMIA ZIADE in TIME FOR A KENT.  Using mixed-media including scraps of fabric, lace and felt, Ziade creates playful and sexually provocative works that explore themes of religion, politics, pop culture, as well as color and texture.

The concept of this group exhibition ‘Neighborhood’ relates to the urban structures that Cairo’s neighborhoods possess. Their layouts are true to the characteristics of the inhabitants and true identity of the city.


Susan Hefuna’s ‘Vitrines of Afaf’ is an installation that displays every day objects used/belong to sisters, mothers or wives. These objects are exhibited in the format of the traditional mobile vitrines seen all over Cairo.

After a lot of controversy and publicity, the Beijing Olympics finally open today.
