Design Me a Sticker

This might well be the most innovative design competition from this part of the world in a long time. The kind of stuff that would get design experts from Copenhagen to Tokyo excited.

Enter the Mulsaq project. Launched last summer, as an open competition for young Middle Eastern designers part of the Khatt Foundation network, Mulsaq aims to create the most innovative sticker designs in the region. The only condition being the designs must have an oriental twist.

Cultural Rapprochement

Syria is host to a new exhibition, coming straight from the V&A in London.
Abu Dhabi might have the Guggenheim, Doha has its Islamic Museum and Damascus has…an exhibition, coming straight from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The V&A managed quite a coup, as it's the first time a European museum brings its artwork to Syria. The show, entitled “World Ceramics” will be the closing event for Damascus, Cultural Capital of the Arab world.

Huda Smitshuijzen Abifares

Huda's last name might be hard to pronounce, but the design guru - she's got degrees from Yale and the Rhode Island School of Design - is doing a lot to bridge the gap between Arabic and Western languages, through the Khatt Foundation, which she created a few years ago. Credited with reviving the art of typography in the Middle East, and making it relevant to today's world, Huda is quite literally creating new fonts for the Arabic language. The stuff you see everywhere everyday, but seldom ever notice. Now you will.

Art Paris- Abu Dhabi

It might be the credit crunch but Abu Dhabi is still having its dance music festival and more importantly...Art Paris - Abu Dhabi, the biggest art event in the emirate.
We've even heard Canvas magazine is flying 100 people first class to the UAE, in order not to miss it.

Launched last year by a series of Paris galleries, curious to explore new markets, the fair has expanded this year to new heights, with no less than 57 galleries from 22 countries. There's also a series of side happenings, truly worth checking out, which we've listed for you.
