Everyone has his or her own way of letting out some steam: watching TV, Nutella gorging, working out at the gym – you name it! But while all these activities may be fine – did we mention shopping? – they don’t solve the problem or the reason why you were stressing out in the first place.

May al Najjar, a young woman with a curious mind and a perseverant spirit, has taken it upon herself to fight stress permanently and build immunity against it. What she advocates is a kind of meditation called pranic healing.

Pranic healing encompasses a broad array of therapeutic approaches, both ancient and modern, based on the notion that any body or mind illness involves an imbalance or blockage in the flow of vital life energy (AURA). The word “prana” actually comes from Sanskrit, meaning “life-force.”

The daughter of a UN diplomat father and a herbalist mother, May had a calling - so she likes to say. It started when her cousin, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, encouraged her to tap into alternative medicine. "She encouraged me to find treatments that can accompany medicine while being fast and effective.” A couple of weeks later, the
 
two were on plane to Dubai. “I decided to take my cousin to pranic healing sessions and the result was truly remarkable.

What she witnessed through her cousin pushed May to study pranic healing seriously. Soon, she was trying it on friends suffering from minor ills. "I have tried hypnosis before, an effective method as well, but I didn’t feel good about trespassing someone's consciousness, despite their consent. Pranic healing is safer on all levels.

May’s therapeutic sessions take place in a dim lit room. “The patient lies on the couch barefoot, with palms directed upwards, tongue touching the upper gum and eyes closed.” After explaining what is
stressing them out, May works on the 7 chakras that engulf our Aura. Each individual has seven chakras or energy points, responsible for an organ in the body.
