Fall catwalk report

Brace yourself, some of those fashion hits of 80’s and 90’s are coming right back at you! Collarless unconstructed jackets, ankle length ‘peg’ pants, midi skirts, gothic black, lace and the all-British tartan. There are also new trends that we welcome with open arms - like glammed-up 70's folklore with rich prints, re-worked rock chick and futuristic tailoring.

It’s a season with something for everyone.

Luxe Folklore
Paisley prints in rich colors, fringing, bohemian brocades, sequins, velvet, massive Yeti-like fur coats and gilets

Lace, lace, more lace!
Black layered lace pieces with Victorian or boudoir references

Cool Goth & Rock Chick
Head-to-toe black, skinny leather pants, large chain necklaces, Patti Smith

British Heritage: from Princess Anne to military to punk
Tartan, neat pencil skirt and twin set combos, headscarves, military dress uniforms

Nature calling
Earthy tones in browns, yellows and greens, winter leaves, feathers

Masculine
Three-piece suiting, man's trousers, the tapered peg pants, tweeds, neckties, 80's references

Super-hero shapes
Futuristic laser-cuts, sharp corners, Star Trek shoulders, exaggerated curves with padding and quilting

I love love LOVE  the luxe folklore look! How can I work it into my summer wardrobe now when it's too hot for velvet pants and boots? Here in Dubai it will be a while before the temperatures go down.

Dear Desertflower,

the transit from summer to fall is much more straight-forward this time around because you can actually continue wearing those bellbottom jeans with wedges, just get an updated version of the embroidered peasant blouse in black or navy. Once the weather cools down, you can get into velvet pants and tuck them into over-the-knee riding boots (if you're lucky, into those amazing Gucci fringe boots that all us fashionistas are drowling after). Another great piece for now is a black floral print puff sleeve mini dress by Roberto Cavalli that you can wear now bare-legged and later add on tights or leggings.
