The Iron Maiden

Zaha Hadid is everywhere and nowhere less than London. Tonight is the opening party at the historic Home House in London for the celebrations of the new Zaha Hadid designed wing and she's designed our favourite part, the bar. Home House will be the platform for the launch of her latest footwear collection in collaboration with iconic, preppy brand Lacoste.

Architect Zaha Hadid’s super high tech space-esque bar and lounge 'raises the bar' in home design.

Made in England

Tala Tayara October 27th 2008

I watched a fabulous programme on the BBC a few days ago called BRITISH STYLE GENIUS; taking you through the iconic moments of fashion change in England and what and who brought about the way we view and wear fashion in this country. The fashion rebels of Vivienne Westwood with her punk rock, pirate collections, John Galliano who changed the face (and profits) of Dior and Mr. Alexander Mcqueen, the black sheep of the fashion industry and the guy who went from elegant Givenchy to his own infamous eponymous label; he who dares, wins was the mantra of this show.

Lebanese Designers owned Grammy night in LA

Tala Tayara February 22nd 2008

Lebanese designers rocked the red carpet at the Grammy Awards in LA!

Beirut's best couture houses were out loud and proud on February 10th and adorned the figures of some of the most famous divas in the music world.

Natasha Bedingfield donned a gorgeous Reem Acra creation in the colour of the Royals; deep purple.

Carrie Underwood accepted her award in a stunning full length, floral print gown by Zuhair Murad.

Hitting the Fashion Ski Slopes

Tala Tayara February 20th 2008
With the ski season in full swing, what not to wear on the slopes is on every fashionista's mind but with the top labels making ski wear and even with the more affordable high street brands cashing in on the action, you have no excuse whatsoever to look like the Michelin Man.

Bedouin scarves

Really loving the Oriental urban look at the moment: all you need is a military jacket, a colourful T-shirt, a bedouin or palestinian scarf and chunky metal jewelry!!

It's All About Vintage

The Kuwait Link

Don’t you envy those Western fashionistas raving about this and that vintage store in the East Village?  Wouldn’t it be great if we had a bit of that too? Sigh… (I remember in Damascus, a guy would go around the souk selling all kinds of second hand shirts on a mobile rack. That was kind of vintage – even though the selection was off…)

ELLE makes it to the Middle East!

The Middle East Link

Most of you are probably surprised to hear ELLE, the leading women's magazine has a Middle Eastern version. Well it does, and it’s been around for just over a year. Where have you been?

For those of you who think it’s all about cut and paste from ELLE US or ELLE Italy, think again! ELLE Middle East, quite like Nox (see Dia Daily’s archives) is 100% Middle East and is based in Lebanon. No cut and paste from somewhere else. Even the fashion shoots are done in the Middle East, from Damascus to Dubai and back to Beirut.

Naughty and Nice?

The Dubai Link

Once upon a time, women’s lib was about equal rights and female empowerment and the likes of Gloria Steinem talking about fish in water, men and bicycles. But now, in a time when women are finally able to have it all, maybe it’s time we made women’s lib about losing definitions.
