Graduate fashion

Graduate fashion week is a great opportunity for us fashion professionals to have a peek at the future talent so I made my way to London Graduate Fashion Week to spot the hot new talent of the year. Stella McCartney, Julien MacDonald, Christopher Bailey (Creative Director of Burberry), Antonio Beradi, Katie Hillier (accessories designer at Marc Jacobs and Luella) and Hussein Chalayan all started their burgeoning careers on this catwalk.

Cosmetic surgery - to do or not to do...

What would you change in yourself if you had the opportunity? Someone might say her nose, the other points at her breasts past their blooming glory after childbirth, and the third says her bulging tummy and side rolls, formally known as love handles, are becoming an issue. We are living in a time where wrinkles are expelled with botox during a lunch break and sessions are booked for a body sculpturing session with a surgeon to make the body perfect with minimal intrusion. Bikini season inevitably always brings along express ways to get the body fit for the tiniest string bikini.

Osman Yousefzada for Mango

Yesterday I was invited to view Osman Yousefzada’s first designer collaboration with Mango at the exclusive launch in department store Selfridges. What a better way to start the day than a cup of a fresh coffee and a croissant while eyeing on new fashion arrivals. ‘I’m very excited about the collaboration with Mango, it’s a great opportunity to express my vision to a wider audience. And the little black dress is a staple and a must have for every woman’s wardrobe’, Osman said.

London Talent

London Fashion Week has always acted as a starting platform for many exciting talents – but it used to take ages before their collections were available to buy. Todd Lynn, Aminaka Wilmont, Graeme Black, Nathan Jenden, Hannah Marshall and Peter Jensen are London’s new kids on the block. Now e-tailers like Net-A-Porter and Ninaandlola.com are giving them a chance to reach a wider audience via online shopping. Spring collections have just arrived in store and are already selling out fast.

London Fashion Weekend goes eco

How to define the saying ‘shop til you drop’? Well, go to London Fashion Weekend and get overwhelmed by designer goodies on offer. Twice a year right after the London Fashion Week, the public has a chance to bag some designer bargains. Betty Jackson, Ben de Lisi, Bora Aksu, Future Classics, PPQ, Anonymous, Babette Wasserman, Beatrix Ong, Bracher Emden, Jamie Jewellery, Juicy Couture, Karl Donoghue, Made In Heaven, Mawi,  Myla, Olivia Morris, Paul & Joe, Sam Ubhi Jewellery,  T-Bags…. The list goes on and on.

London fashion week: Day 6

Greek designer Ioannis Dimitrousis, showing his second collection at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, has an obvious talent for knitwear. I was positively salivating after those knitted crochet dresses with massive ruffles and hand-woven multicolored ribbon dresses.
The rest of it was a bit too neo-punk for my taste but this is definitely a name to remember in years to come.

London fashion week: Day 5

Young Korean designer duo Steve J & Yoni P have really come a long way since their last collection. I witnessed sleek tailored trousers, double breasted pea coats, working a palette of black, camel, cream, navy and coral in such a high dose of polished elegance, I’m sure this collection will go down a treat with the buyers.

London fashion week: Day 4

Tehranian Afshin Feiz appeared in LFW for the second time to a full audience at the Royal Academy of Arts. Forever fascinated by Persian poet Rumi’s poetry on butterflies. Winter always takes Feiz out of his comfort zone of wispy summer dresses but he manages to create a murkier more futuristic vision, called Cocoon.  By using black in multitude of textures from about butterflies’ pre-born state.
