Two legendary jazz players come to Beirut once again, to play their new musical project: a mix between western jazz and traditional Indian music. This is a one off event not to be missed, especially since the music coming out of this project will only be available on record in September. We have the nice people at Liban Jazz and Music Hall to thank for that.

Erik Truffaz, a top French jazz performer, has recorded over ten albums and is well established in the United States on the world famous label Blue Note. “Jazz with energy and soul, and a lot of open space”, wrote Rolling Stone of the performer. “Intelligent, uncompromising, contemporary music played by virtuosos with rich fantasy and spirit”, claims the magazine Jazz Times. Erik Truffaz was introduced to the general public in 1998 as a major European jazz artist. He has performed in the most prestigious festivals in the world such as Montreux and Montreal Jazz Festivals and has also played twice in Lebanon, at the Byblos Festival in 2004 and at Liban Jazz Festival in 2006 with his quartet project.

After Truffaz encounter with the ultra-talented brazilian pianist Malcolm BRAFF and their Indian tour in 2006, they decided to create this original “Indian Project”, featuring Apurba MUKHERJEE (tablas) and Indrani MUKHERJEE (voice). The album will be realesed on Blue Note Label in september 2008. The band’s coming concert at Liban Jazz Festival will be a World “avant-première”! Not to be missed.
