Yummy Mummy is pregnant again!

Yummy Mummy Mom October 13th 2008

Hello again Dia-Diwaners! Did ya miss me? I was lured away from the laptop and out into the sunshine, watching my little SO* delight in all the wonderful things that summer brings, but can you blame me?

She picked fruit straight from the trees and made her own juice, held a baby crab in her hand on the beach, played in the surf, fed and rode a horse, discovered popsicles, and took a wagon ride into the fields to pick her own watermelon at an organic farm. The best part for me was just watching her and her cousins frolic here and there (yes, at two years old, one frolics pretty much everywhere) -  on the beach, by the pool, in between tables of people having breakfast at the local coffee shop….it was simply blissful. ‘Simple’, being the operative word, here.

Ok, it may just be the hormones talking, (more on that later) …..but these past few weeks have made an even bigger mush-ball out of me; seeing my daughter thrive on the natural joys of summer, without a single trip to the toy store and NO TV, has made me nostalgic for my own childhood and all that simple, good old-fashioned, wholesome fun. I guess that’s what having kids does to you; makes you walking cliché. And guess what, I’m about to do it all over again…Yup, I’m preggers again, expecting another little Scrumptious One in a few months!

Now, I’m skeptical about the “Yummy Mummy” title myself, (Dia came up with that one, not me….there is plenty un-yummy about me right now….not least of which are the bulging belly and a sense of smell like a werewolf….NOT good in an elevator)……HOWEVER, in the spirit of trying to stay vaguely yummy I am always hunting down cool clothing, gadgets, nursery decor and baby gear for the new one coming along.

So here’s the deal: ASK ME QUESTIONS! Let me know what you want to know about (where to find the best maternity jeans, baby slings, bottle brands), and I’ll do my best to find out for you. Now if you’ll excuse me while I reach for the tissues….that insurance ad on TV has got me all weepy again………….!

Yummy Mummy, where have you been!? I know I never post comments on this site, but I always read your blog and I am glad to see you back. I am a mum of two myself, congratulations!

Hi Yummy Mummy

A very close friend of mine had a baby last week - and i really don't know what to get her - i don't really like to get clothes and such but not sure what to get. Can you recommend anything that a 1st time "mama" would really want?

thanks for your help

What about Blossom? Apparently they are the one stop shop for anything baby and mama related? they have a huge flagship in Riyadh and the boutique in London's Walton Street..
Hi there Sema, this might not sound very glamourous, but believe me one of the best gifts I got were really nice, good quality baby towels. It's something you don't always think of spending money on as a first time mom because you're so focused on all the other cute stuff...but you should! For a new mum, bathtime is one of the most magical parts of the day, and newborns deserve to be wrapped up in the best! Good bath towels means they are big enough to last until the baby is two or three, are nice and thick, and have seams that won't rip after a million washes. Personally my favourite ones are from the Nursery Window on Walton St. in London ...teach them to appreciate fine linens at an early age Smile Someone also gave me a set from Descamps in Beirut that have lasted pretty well too. In any case, I agree that clothes are not the best gift -- if your friend has a baby girl, jewelry is always very appreciated and lasts forever.

Yummy Mmmy, great to have you back, even if it's until the arrival of your next SO...
I'm still to join the motherhood la-la land myself but getting great practice with my 5 year-old niece and 15 month old nephew, plus all the little nappie bums of my friends. So I have become somewhat hooked on kidswear and baby goodies, especially organic skincare which I often sample on myself.

Sema, one thing that I keep on buying for my friends' newborn babies is skincare, you can never have too many baby oil and baby palms in stock. Check out Adili.com  - I love Trevarno Baby Salve with camomile and lavender (this one is in my emergency for any skin inflammations) and Baby Cleanser (which I use as my facial cleanser with a motto ‘if it’s good enough for baby bottom, it’s good enough for my face’) containing Lavender Flower Water, devine Rosehip Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract and Vitamin E.  Adili also stocks a new organic brand from Australia called Pittapatta. They have holistic ranges called Calm & Content, Welcome To The World, Baby Rescue, Sweet Dreams and Freedom To Express, all with Chakra balancing and grounding gem essences for a newborn.
If you fancy going the fashion route, then Alexandalexa.com and Little Fashion Gallery are your one-stop online boutiques. WoWo has unsual and fun baby gear and Imps & Elfs have the nicest organic pieces, stocked at both boutiques. Another gift idea are the die-for mouse baby booties by Little Marc Jacobs sold at Little Fashion gallery.

All the best,
