I know you very well. You choose your clothes carefully, you accessorize with precision and you appreciate that great design has to look good, feel good and work well. So, why should you settle for anything less when buying baby stuff?
The amount of things you find yourself accumulating when preparing for the arrival of a baby is shocking – but nothing generates as much debate among new parents as the stroller. I have had girlfriends AND their husbands call me up in desperation about this and have heard all the arguments for and against multiple brands. So, here is what it all boils down to: style.
For the Edgy, Sporty Mom: Your typical outfit is a pair of Maharishis and trainers. You can snowboard, windsurf and are the only woman you know who can rock climb…Dude, you need a Stokke Xplory. Even the name is edgy. It comes in six colors, including orange and turquoise, and your baby will love sitting up high instead of staring at people's knees all day. And let's face it, even if you're only a snowboarder wannabe, this stroller looks so damn cool.
For the Eco-Hipster: You eat organic, you recycle and your most fashionable accessory says: "I am not a plastic bag." You probably don't want to burden your apartment with more stuff than you really need. Check out the ingenious Orbit. It's a stroller that doubles as a car seat (the easiest I have ever installed), swivels around 360º and has a built-in drink holder for your grande-double-shot-skinny-latte. Is there really any reason why you wouldn’t support a company that strives so hard to be eco-friendly?
For the Urban Mom: Your Pumas are your best friend and you’ve recently been reconsidering the practicality of backpacks (shame on you!). If you travel on short trips with your baby and need to schlep up and down the city or drive everywhere, you'll need your stroller to fold up fast – preferably with one hand. Look no further than a Maclaren. With multiple models in lightweight aluminum, you can't go wrong with this one. They are not super cool-looking, but if you must have the fashionable version, check out the 'Four Seasons' edition. By the way, no matter what kind of fancy stroller you end up buying, trust me, you will end up wanting a Maclaren anyway, even if only for traveling, so keep that in mind.
For the Fashionista: You know who you are – and you already know it has to be the Bugaboo. The new 'Bee' is more compact and even more flexible than the 'Chameleon', if that's possible. Yes, it's totally fabulous, and yes, every yummy mummy in Notting Hill has one. But be warned, I've heard several fashionable mums refuse to buy it precisely for these reasons. Ah! The fickle world of fashion…you just can't win.
Happy Trails!
