I love it when Western designers create special pieces for the Arab world. Do you remember when Sheikh Majed asked Prada, Gucci and Missoni to come up with special abaya for his first Villa Moda store in Kuwait.
More recently, Princess Deena Abdulaziz comissioned Diane Von Furstenberg to design some of her iconic wrap dress, with a longer hem, for her Riyadh concept store D'NA.
This time, its the British designer Bruce Oldfield who tries his hand at it. Partnering with Crosley Diamonds of London, the designer has created what is supposed to be the most expensive abaya in the world.
The creation, which counts no less than 4,668 individual diamonds, is to be sold at London's Saudi-Gulf Luxury Fair next month for 175,000 UK Pounds...yes, you read correctly . Part of the profits will go to the Islamic Relief, a global relief charity.
The Saudi Gulf Luxury Trade Fair will take place in London, August 2-3 at the Intercontinental Hotel - Park Lane. Numerous Arab and European designers as well as international companies will be present.
