Brides get a few tips from Image Specialist Rana Saab. Whether you're torn between white or ivory for your wedding dress and can't figure out what to pack for your honeymoon - than this blog is for you...
Have you ever advised a bride for her wedding day?
Yes, I have advised a bride on the suitable color and style of her dress in addition to makeup and hair. Since she had soft colorings with a warm undertone and she was looking for a traditional white wedding gown, her best choice of white was a soft ivory, which complimented her skin tone and didn't wash her out as a stark white would. The style of the dress depended on her body shape and style personality as well. The style we chose was Mermaid which showed off her feminine figure. Having an hourglass figure with shoulders and hips in line and a very defined waist, this style showed off all her assets and was simpler in style than the traditional ball gown with the full skirt or the A line/princess dress. To complement her wedding theme which was "on the beach", we kept the accessories to a minimum and had some crystals sewed on her veil only. We didn't want anything to take the attention away from her natural assets. Her hair was done in loose wavy curls and her makeup was very natural too with a sun kissed effect; It directed the focus to her eyes where we used golden/bronze tones and shades. The overall effect was in tune with her style personality which was natural and so even on her wedding day she managed to have a cool, laid back look that was perfectly put together without being contrived. Since the ceremony was by the beach side, we chose lovely sandals with a cone shaped heel that gave her most support and wouldn't sink in the ground. What would you advise a newly wed to take with her on her honeymoon?
When planning for a honeymoon, the last thing a bride should pack is clutter. She should create a honeymoon wardrobe capsule that will help her mix and match and transform outfits from day to evening. When going to a tropical location, the wardrobe will be very light fabric with a fresh color palette, look for linen with a blend (viscose) as it won't wrinkle easily, cottons and chiffons. You can start by packing the basics which will cover tops, bottoms, shoes, bags and swim wear. Starting with tops, choose your favorite white t shirt which can mix and match with anything. The style and neckline will depend on your body shape and proportions. A v neckline looks flattering on most and mixes with skirts better than a crew (round) neckline. Add a camisole or a strapless top to transform your look into evening. A halter neck in a lovely print or vibrant solid color will jazz up shorts or denim skirts. Leave your jeans at home as you never end up wearing them to the beach or afterwards. Why would you want to cover up your tan anyway? A loose linen shirt with short sleeves works well over tight shorts. And finally a dressy tank (with sequins or beads) which will look great over white pants. For bottoms start with a very comfy white or beige linen trouser or khaki pant, cotton shorts (taupe, camel or stone), a colorful cotton skirt ( introduce some fresh colors here like yellow, red or blue) which will team perfectly with the white t-shirt and don't forget the summer dress. A cotton cardigan in a neutral color is a good idea as it can get cool at night even in tropical areas. For shoes pack thong sandals or filp flops and one high heeled sandal which will transform your shorts for evening. A straw bag will get you in the beach mood and since it's a neutral color it can go with anything. A smaller shiny clutch can transform your look from beach to party. Your swim suit should be in your best color too and make sure you pick the right style to balance your proportions and direct the attention away from the flaws. A beach cover up is optional ;A see through tunic top is the easiest to wear and most stylish on the beach. Sunscreen. Statement sunglasses. And you're ready to go!
