Let Them Breathe!

Ms. Mishmaoul September 30th 2008
A guy I once dated actually made a derogatory comment about the "bare" look of my un-polished (albeit "manicured") nails – so I didn’t have time in my 18-hour workday to schedule a bloody re-polish, sue me why don’t you!

Obviously he was not a keeper, but he raises an interesting point. Has the bar been set so high that we cannot even leave the house now without the proper facade? Are guys so used to a certain level of sophistication these days that anything below that standard is fair ground for “commenting”?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the polished look! Indeed, I do it for myself and not for any guy. However, there are days when i simply don't have the time. It's not my fault that there are only 24 hours in a day.

When you think about it, all a guy has to do is wake up, shower and shave. The most grooming he'll ever have to go through is trimming his nails. (Yes, there are those metrosexuals who actually do get pedicures and eyebrow tweaks, but thankfully they're not representative of the average Joe – let alone the average Middle Eastern Joe!).

I don't need to tell you ladies, as I'm sure you each have a long routine of your own that you go through, but our list definitely consists of much more than a shower and shave! Moreover, for many women, getting ready in the morning consists of their long list, plus the kids' list, plus a couple of other lists too.

So finally, I ask you this; is it our fault? Have we created our own nightmare by placing so many demands on ourselves? Do we really have to match our hand polish to our pedi-polish? Do our roots have to be done every six weeks? Will the world come to an end if our hair dries naturally once in a while?

Can we make a pact to all go out tomorrow with bare nails! Lets let those babies breathe for once!

... ok, you know i'm just kidding right?! i've already picked out my color for my manicure tomorrow afternoon ... Chanel's Organdy Pink, you should try it.
i dont live all year round in the Middle East but when i do, its a constant hamster wheel of grooming and plucking and manicuring and matching your toes to your handbag. It's sometime a little tedious but i have to admit somewhat necessary and always a guilty pleasure when its a fraction of the price than Europe. And to be perfectly honest, the women look goood in the Mid East so its worth it. But its indefinitely not ok for a dude to mention it! Ever seen that episode on SATC??

Haha, Yes I have!
And Samantha definitely put that obnoxious dude in his place ;)
