Toot :The Best of Arab Blogs

nancym November 5th 2008

The Arab blogosphere has become a very interesting place to be. Egyptian bloggers have been interviewed on CNN and Jordanian bloggers organized their very own “Blog About Jordan Day” last March. Now while it hasn’t been all peaches with the Arab blogosphere, the appearance of a decent Arab blog aggregator has definitely done its part to sweeten the atmosphere.

The Jordan-based website, Toot, takes the best of the Arab blogosphere and pools it all into one page. It features blogs by Lebanese, Egyptian, Libyan, Sudanese, Saudi, Emirati and Palestinian bloggers – just to name a few – with posts written both in Arabic and English.

All the blogs that appear on the website are handpicked so you know you’re going to be getting something good when you check out the latest posts. And there’s something in there for everyone, with political, personal, economic, cultural and social blogs. They describe themselves as a “a window and a link into an exciting new universe of people-powered opinions, information, dialogue and entertainment. From politics to sneakers. From culture to technology. From boys and girls!” They’ve got it all.

If you’re overwhelmed with the content and aren’t sure where to start, we’d recommend their Top 10 list of bloggers of the month. The Top 10 is determined entirely by readers votes, so chances are – you’re going to like them too. Or you could take a look at the blog posts featured on their home page, or as they call them, “tootreads” – a selection of the best blog posts of the day.

If you think that your own blog is worth adding to the mix, go ahead and drop them a line, and in the meantime, you’ll probably find lots to read while you’re waiting to hear back from them.
