Dia Diwan's first "The Mind Blog"

Shrink Wrapped December 28th 2008

Tis the season to be contemplating tradition and faith, beginnings and endings and of course ‘giving’; The old adage ‘it is better to give than to receive’ resonates with most of us since we were kids.

As children it can be a hard concept to fathom, but as we grow we begin to see and experience the advantages that come with giving- and even if we are not aware of them, there are many psychological benefits too! (Granted though, it would be a hard task to convince ourselves that buying someone a pair of Louboutins is better than receiving them…)

Ms. Pilates: Form for the festive Season

Ms. Pilates December 21st 2008
During the holiday season, it’s hard to keep up with our usual exercise and eating habits. As mince pies and kenafehs fill our minds, less attention is given to our healthy diet and several excuses can be found for not going to the gym. While taking breaks from our routine can be healthy, it is important not to let go completely and fall for the "all or nothing" attitude. Instead of trying to fit a full workout into your festive calendar, pledge to do just a little every day to keep your body in track and feeling in control.

Doom and Gloom at Art Basel Miami? Not Quite!

Alia al Senussi December 10th 2008

Art Basel Miami didn't sparkle quite as much as it has in years past.  However, most people seemed genuinely relieved to be out of London and New York, the capital cities of the doom and gloom attitude that has taken everyone over.  The two best parties of the week were actually at the beginning of the fair (before fair-goers realized that they couldn't escape the crisis).  These were the house party that Monika Kalpakian hosted on Monday night and the New York Times party on Tuesday night at the penthouse of the Raleigh Hotel, marking the beginning of Design Miami.

Rania - Still the Queen of Style

The Polyglot December 8th 2008
To call Jordan's Queen Rania one of the Middle East’s most iconic figures is somewhat of an understatement, considering that Time magazine dubbed her the new face of Arab feminism for the 21st century.

Possibly the best PR machine Jordan has ever encountered, she has managed to impress both foreign dignitaries and Western journalists alike. Whether dinning at the Élysée Palace with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni or being interviewed on the Oprah Winfrey show, she is a master at disarming the staunchest of critics.

Easy CSR.....

Rasha December 6th 2008

In our "modern" life, it seems hard to stop and take time out to really get involved in social issues and support change. Companies began by implementing programs of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to help integrate social awareness and change into the work environment.

Yummy Mummy's Inner Martha

Yummy Mummy Mom November 26th 2008

I wasn’t always this way. When I was a single career girl in the Big Apple, (ah…the days!), I used the little stove in my apartment exactly twice in five years; both apparently events so momentous that I can remember what I cooked. Motherhood, however, has done two things; it has helped me find my inner Martha Stewart, and has started the inevitable process of turning me into my mother.

Arab Art Scene Holding up?

Alia al Senussi November 24th 2008

The last week has been full of events relevant to Middle Eastern art!  The week kicked off with the opening of Art Paris Abu Dhabi--the fair was marginal but definitely better than last year's edition.  However, the two bright spots of the fair was the TDIC's Art, Talks and Sensations organized by Fabrice Bousteau, and the Collector's Program organized by Ali Khadra and Canvas.  These were absolutely extraordinary events.  The Collector's Program took a group of collectors around Abu Dhabi for four days and treated everyone on the trip to a delightful experience and an unforgettable t
